I am pleased to offer clinical supervision and case consultation to mental health professionals who would like to build competence in Sex and Relationship therapy.
Relationship therapy is very different from individual work. As a clinician you need to manage your alignment with each partner while leading them through emotionally intense conversations. You will need to develop leadership skills to keep your sessions on track. Sexual issues are an important dimension of relationship therapy. While you don’t need to be a sex therapist, you do need to have comfort and competence to address these issues. It is a tall order, but you can do this!
I am a Registered Social Worker with over 15 years of experience in relationship therapy. Additionally I am both a Certified Sex Therapist and Approved Supervisor (Qualifying) for the Association of Sex Therapy in Ontario (ASTO). I take an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from EFT, Solution-focused therapy, Gottman methods and others to develop a tailored approach for each client.
My areas of specialization are: emotional communication skills, low desire, healing from infidelity, navigating relationship agreements for open/Lifestyle/Poly relationships, erection difficulties. I am kink-positive and LGBTQ+ affirming. I want to help you cultivate your own personal style and approach by engaging in self-reflection on your practice.
My passion for supervision stems from a deep belief in the power of collaborative learning, fostering critical thinking and promoting ethical practice. I work with both new clinicians early in their career, and more experienced clinicians looking to expand their competency in sex and relationship therapy. My goal is to develop clinical skills and build your confidence to overcome imposter syndrome. I am able to supervise virtually throughout Ontario.
My approach to supervision is supportive and strengths-based. I use an Adult Education approach: drawing on your existing clinical competencies to help you grow into this new area of your practice. I believe mistakes are a normal part of learning new skills. Supervision is a safe place to reflect on your practice and learn from mis-steps. While supervision is not therapy, it is also important to attend to the person of the therapist to avoid burnout.
My undergraduate degree is in business, and I am pleased to extend supervision to business coaching and practice development as needed.
I am committed to supporting the professional development of clinicians and believe that effective supervision is essential to delivering high-quality relationship therapy. I am currently accepting new supervisees. Please contact me to discuss your supervision needs.
